Attorney Larissa L. Lazarus is a member of Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. She is a volunteer mediator for the United States Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of California and the Pro Bono San Diego Bankruptcy Clinic through the United States Bankruptcy Court. She served as a member of the San Diego Bankruptcy Court’s Local Rules Committee overseen by Chief Bankruptcy Judge Laura S. Taylor.
Attorney Lazarus came to the Law Offices of Mark L. Miller in early 2005 after graduating from Thomas Jefferson School of Law. Initially, she worked primarily in our personal injury department. During those formative years, Attorney Lazarus worked hand in hand with Mark L. Miller in complex auto accident, dog bite, premises liability, and slip and fall cases.
During this time, the United States Bankruptcy Code changed, making it more difficult to qualify for bankruptcy because of the addition of the “means test.” With law changes, Attorney Lazarus hit the ground running and learned the new law and challenged herself to qualify people for Chapter 7 liquidation cases. She cut her teeth on some of the most complicated bankruptcy cases we have filed to date.
When the 2008 recession hit, Attorney Lazarus helped hundreds of homeowners file Chapter 13 reorganization cases to keep their homes, shed debt, and eliminate their unsecured junior mortgages and lines of credit. Three to five years later, those Chapter 13 cases finished and our clients were out of debt and building equity in their homes. She worked tirelessly to assist clients in finishing their Chapter 13 cases. Seeing these cases through from inception to discharge is a huge accomplishment for our clients. Attorney Lazarus takes great pride knowing we walked the path with them to financial freedom.
Attorney Lazarus has tried cases before the Bankruptcy Court and civil jury trials in the San Diego Superior Court. She has attended thousands of 341a meeting of creditors, appeared in hundreds of bankruptcy and state court hearings.
Since 2007, Attorney Lazarus has been an adjunct professor, first at Southwestern College and more recently at the University of San Diego.
